Two Rivers Clothing Swap

Two Rivers Clothing Swap

September 20, 2018

At the end of the summer, Two Rivers held a Clothing Swap get the kids ready for back to school. Looking for a way to get new-to-you clothes without having to spend a lot of money, the Swap was inspired by financial reasons, but also to help reduce waste produced by the fast fashion industry. “It was away for parents to get their kids new school clothes without needing to spend lots of money and not contributing to the consumerist environmental tragedy that is our clothing culture.”, explains Alisha Arnold, the Neighbourhood Support Worker. “We also wanted to break some of the norms with the way clothing was laid out. Everything was separated into shirts, pants, sweaters and outside gear with no male/female areas.”

This is the second clothing swap held at Two Rivers but the first just geared to kids clothes. They hope to have two swaps a year with the next one happening in the spring. Alisha is hoping to have more clothes for teens donated between now and then. “Most of the stuff we had was ages 5-11.”, she said. “There was not enough larger stuff for bigger kids and teens.”

If you have clothing donations to make, you can get in touch with the TRNG by calling (519) 837-4248 or emailing  or stopping by the office at Tytler Public School during office hours (Monday: 9 AM – 1 PM, Wednesday: 1 – 5 PM)
